A few more tips from Mike:

Fabric Cable and Luminous Paint

Mike advises: For fabric cable for my D25 restoration I found some white iron flex in B&Q in 2 metre lengths. To make it the right colour, Dylon fabric dye in various colours is available in Woolworths. On the downside, the cable colours are slightly affected, so don't tell the nannies! Luminous paint for the clock hands and dial is available from http://www.m-p.co.uk/. It is fairly expensive, but 150ml should do 100 Teawakers! Also available is grease and oil for the clock.

Clock Motors

If it has stopped there are two possibilities; try to see if the motor will turn freely - if not, it probably needs cleaning and lubricating; come back to us on that.

Do not:

  • Dunk movement in solvent - it MUST be dismantled

  • Allow WD40 or similar anywhere near any clock!

  • Use any old oil or grease

If motor turns OK, you need to check if coil is O/C - if you are working on any electrical appliances you need a meter and know how to use it. At present they are £2.49 from Maplins!! It is possible to rewind the coil or get it rewound.
