Teasmade model D26, approx 1954 The "Popular" D26, which
includes the patented uni-directional drive mechanism number
571849, was made in the Goblin factory in Leatherhead. It
remained in production for well over twenty years.
The
advert below is from the 1958 edition of the Lawrence
Brothers Ltd Fancy Goods catalogue.
The
body and base were in cream urea plastic.
One
of the last advertisements for this model appeared in
about 1970 when it cost £13.7.2 without a bulb or shade.
The
kettle fitted behind the clock, and there was no tray or
tea pot. There was a dimpled square chrome plated kettle,
and the fittings were black phenol plastic. No shade or
light bulb were supplied.
The example illustrated
features in "The Kettle" a book by Jonathan
Woodham from Aurum Press's Design Icons series. It
appeared there courtesy of the then owner Enrico Tedeschi,
but I now own this Teasmade myself. I also loaned it to
appear in the wonderful Teapot Calendar in 2003.
