Goblin
D23 The D23 was probably
introduced in 1949. It has a cream stove-enamelled, die-cast
alloy body.
My thanks to Doug for this
photo of his D23.

Doug has
also provided this photo of the clock face. He writes: "I love the 24 hour alarm
superimposed on a 12 hour clock. I have tried it out and
it works fine. In the picture what appears to be 8.30 am
is in fact 7.00 pm. A useful feature, as it is
possible to set it up after a morning cuppa and it won't
go off in the evening. Why it was not used on other
models and dropped on the D26 I don't know - ahead of it's
time perhaps? A less useful aspect is that the light is switched
off with the buzzer - it has no independent switch. So
the bulb is used about 10 seconds a day and in theory
should last about 500 years!"

This 1949
advert, for several
Goblin products, includes the 'NEW POPULAR MODEL' in its
bottom right corner, describing it as "an
inexpensive version of the standard Teasmade... finished
in cream and chrome". The "Popular" name
was used for this basic teasmade style until around 1970. |

Goblin
D23c The D23c was an
automatic 700W coffee maker featuring a self starting 24
hour alarm movement, a luminous dial, a lampshade and a
coffee percolator.
An
original photograph from the Goblin sales literature is
shown here.

This
delightful Goblin illustration appeared among the
operation notes and service details supplied with the D23c.
The notes suggest a manufacture date of 1953 and I have
been told of an example of this model being purchased
around 1951. |
